Why I Built the Good Neighbor Network

Far too often I found myself unsure of what I could DIY and if it was worth it. After years of learning "how to" the hard way and being overwhelmed with spam calls, unreliable contractors, and too many choices when looking for help, I built a simpler, more trustworthy way to get the right guidance and help — without the noise.

Why GNN exists

Too many homeowner platforms feel like lead mills. You fill out a form, get flooded with calls and still are not sure who to trust. Projects go unfinished or half-baked leaving homeowners frustrated and unsure who to turn to. I kept running into the same problem -- too many calls, too many unknown contractors, and no clear way to know who to trust.

For me, it all came to a head on an Easter Sunday evening, after a wonderful weekend hosting family for the Holiday.  I was putting extra chairs away in my basement and noticed a pin-hole leak on a pressurized copper hot water pipe leaving my hot water heater.  I didn't know who to call or what to do.  After shutting the water main off to the house, I filled out a form online in hopes of finding anyone who could help me ASAP.  No one called, no one offered advice.  Then mid-Monday the calls started coming in force, calls into Tuesday, Wednesday and beyond.  Multiple calls a day from multiple service companies.  High pressure sales pitches and a misunderstanding of my situation, exacerbated the problem.  I called a local HVAC technician that I have come to know and trust in the hopes that he could give me something to go on - anything.  He referred me to his plumbing contractor, who then gave me a tip that allowed me to fix the problem quickly, efficiently and safely.  It really made me think -- there has to be a better way!

GNN was created to be a better experience -- one that helps homeowners think through projects clearly , understand their options and connect with a trusted local professional when needed.  A network that exists to help homeowner's find "their guy", and hardworking professionals to gain loyal clients.

You will be amazed what home projects you are capable of doing with the right level of guidance, and how easy it can be to ask for help when a project is outside of your comfort zone.
